To me performance is the pinnacle of being a musician. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than getting up in front of people and expressing something. Whether the music is intended to be an insight into the human condition, or simply the joy and excitement present in pop music, there is always something to be communicated.

My two great musical loves are big band music, and freely improvised music. You’ll notice that I didn’t include jazz in either of those two genres. That is because I see genre as fluid, that a big band can play the theme from Rocky just as well as it can play One O’Clock Jump.

In a similar way I believe that freely improvised music by its very nature cannot be confined to a genre. My aesthetic of free improvisation is that it can be achieved when those involved are free from preconceived ideas and open to all ideas. In this way the music can contain elements of any genre whatsoever.
